The ovarian reserve test measures the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), an essential marker to know how many fertile eggs you have and to assess your fertility level. Discreet and from home.

AMH
HMA is considered one of the best tests to measure ovarian reserve because it:
1. AMH levels are relatively constant throughout the menstrual cycle, so the test can be performed at any time during the cycle.
2. AMH levels are not affected by hormonal fluctuations that can affect other tests, such as follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).
3. AMH levels are related to the number of follicles remaining in the ovaries, indicating the number of eggs available for fertilisation.

Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is the most reliable marker of ovarian reserve. An anti-Müllerian test is especially recommended after the age of 35, if you are planning a pregnancy, are going to start assisted reproduction or simply want to know your current fertility.

THE ANTI-MULLERIAN HORMONE TEST IS FOR YOU IF YOU...

  • You are thinking about getting pregnant and you want to know your current ovarian reserve.
  • You have decided to start some kind of assisted reproduction and you want to know how likely you are to respond to ovarian pre-stimulation.
  • You have decided to become egg donor and you want to know your levels.
  • You have a syndrome of polycystic ovary or you suspect it and want to monitor your ovarian reserve.

The female hormone test includes 2 kits to measure the relevant female hormones in two phases of the cycle: the follicular phase (between days 3-5 of the cycle) and the luteal phase (7-9 days before the next cycle). It allows to rule out ovarian dysfunctions such as PCOS, to understand ovulation and symptoms such as painful or irregular periods.

Tiredness, weight or mood swings? Alterations in thyroid function can affect the balance of the body. With this test you can evaluate the main thyroid markers in the blood (free T4 and TSH, which regulates the gland) and identify possible alterations such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, without displacement.

Frequently asked questions about this test

  • If the results are normal, we recommend a six-monthly or annual follow-up. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) varies rapidly from the age of 35 onwards, its decline is not always gradual and there can be sudden drops.
  • If your results are altered, we will advise you to refer you to your primary care physician or specialist for evaluation of other hormones related to your fertility level.

All women are born with a certain number of eggs and therefore it is not possible to increase the ovarian reserve. However, it is possible to maintain the highest possible ovarian reserve for longer by maintaining a healthy lifestyle (maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking, limiting alcohol consumption and exercising regularly) and taking certain supplements such as folic acid and antioxidants such as vitamin E and selenium. In addition, with the right fertility treatment, a woman's ovarian response can be improved to obtain a greater number of mature eggs in a single menstrual cycle.

The factors affecting a woman's ovarian reserve are: - Age: The number of eggs decreases with age as they do not regenerate. - Family history: early menopause is hereditary - Medical history: diseases such as endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease affect ovarian reserve. - Radiotherapy and chemotherapy: these treatments can damage eggs and reduce ovarian reserve. - Lifestyle: smoking, alcohol consumption and obesity have a negative effect on ovarian reserve.

The basic female fertility test does not require any prior preparation. In addition, you do not need to stop taking oral contraceptives on that day.

Not necessarily. A low ovarian reserve means that the number of eggs available is lower than expected for your age, but it does not mean that you cannot get pregnant. Many women with low ovarian reserve achieve a pregnancy naturally or with the help of fertility treatments. The important thing is to detect this situation in time to assess the options available and plan ahead if necessary.

Ovarian reserve can be assessed at any time if there are reasons to do so, such as menstrual irregularities, a family history of early menopause, or if you are thinking of postponing childbearing. However, from the age of 30 onwards it is advisable to start keeping an eye on this aspect if you are planning your fertility. As you get older, the quantity and quality of your eggs gradually decreases, especially after the age of 35, so having this information can help you make more confident decisions.
