SENIOR HEALTH 6P

Project funded by CDTI - File MIG-20241038 - Science and Innovation Missions 2024 Programme

A milestone for healthy ageing research

The ageing of the population is one of the most complex healthcare challenges of the 21st century. Not only because life expectancy continues to increase, but also because doing so with quality of life, autonomy, functionality and well-being requires a profound change in how medicine understands, measures and acts on the process of ageing.

In this context, Ailin Health joins the project as a technology partner Senior Health 6P, an initiative selected in the call for proposals Science and Innovation Missions 2024 of the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI).

The aim of the project is clear and ambitious: to develop the first digital biobank focused on healthy ageing, integrating data from 500 patients over 65 years of age across five complementary health dimensions.

The role of Ailin Health: technology at the service of the patient

Within the consortium, Ailin Health brings its expertise in home self-tapping kits and in the development of digital platforms for AI-assisted biochemical analysis. Our contribution is articulated around three axes:

Advanced biochemical analysis

We process biomarkers in blood for the early identification of metabolic and cardiovascular pathologies common in the elderly population. The early detection of biochemical alterations such as dyslipidaemia, insulin resistance or systemic inflammation allows us to anticipate interventions before the pathologies manifest themselves clinically.

2. Digital patient platform

We developed an accessible interface designed for the elderly, which will allow autonomous consultation and management of the health data generated throughout the study. This tool encourages the patient empowermentThe patient ceases to be a passive subject of the health system and becomes an active agent of his or her own well-being.

3. Artificial intelligence applied to metabolism

The biochemical data collected will be cross-referenced with the rest of the biomarkers in the biobank, using machine learning algorithms. The result will be predictive models capable of identifying individualised risk patterns and generating personalised clinical recommendations, thus contributing to the transition towards a precision medicine for ageing.

A multi-scale digital biobank: what does it mean and why is it relevant?

The term «multiscale» is not rhetorical. Ageing is a complex process that cannot be explained at a single biological level. A person's genetics predispose, but do not determine. The gut microbiome influences chronic inflammation. Biochemical markers reflect the metabolic state at a given time. Body composition and locomotor functionality reveal the cumulative impact of all these factors on actual functional capacity.

A biobank that simultaneously captures these five domains and analyses them longitudinally over time can answer questions that were previously impossible to address with precision.

The consortium: science and industry working together

Senior Health 6P is an example of how 21st century health research requires the confluence of very different capabilities. The consortium is made up of three health technology companies and three leading academic centres.

Consortium companies

Cofrentes Spa (consortium leader) - specialised in preventive medicine and healthy ageing with more than 140,000 overnight stays per year. It provides the infrastructure for longitudinal data collection in a real clinical environment, consolidating the concept of Human Lab for collaborative research. It also serves a non-institutionalised population that accesses the IMSERSO's Social Thermalism Programme, which guarantees a representative sample of high epidemiological relevance.

Overgins - Precision medicine company based at the University of Valencia Science Park. Leader in genetic and microbiota analysis, with proprietary technologies for the processing and management of genomic and multiscale data. It will lead the development of predictive algorithms and the analysis of complex biobank data.

Ailin Health - Technology-based company specialising in home self-testing kits and digital health platforms. It develops the patient interface and provides the AI-assisted biochemical analysis component, making it possible to integrate home data with data collected in the clinical environment of the Spa.

Academic collaboration

The scientific validation of the project is supported by three leading academic institutions: the Professional School of Medical Hydrology of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (with experience in thermal and ageing medicine), FISABIO (Fundació per al Foment de la Investigació Sanitària i Biomèdica de la Comunitat Valenciana) and the Autonomous University of Madrid. His contribution covers statistical analysis of biomedical data, biomarker validation and methodological oversight of the study.

Funding framework: CDTI and the Missions Programme

The CDTI (Centre for Technological Development and Innovation) is the Spanish Government's public entity responsible for promoting business innovation through competitive funding. Its Science and Innovation Missions Programme funds high-impact strategic projects in priority areas such as health, digitalisation and sustainability.

Senior Health 6P was selected in the 2024 call of this programme (dossier MIG-20241038), which is an important endorsement of the scientific soundness and technical feasibility of the project. The initiative is also in line with the Next Generation EU Plan and the Spain's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, as well as with European strategies on digital health, active ageing and personalised medicine.

Expected impact of the project

  • Generation of 3 validated diagnostic and predictive algorithms
  • Validated digital patient interface with NPS higher than 50%
  • Multivariable clinical reporting system integrated in at least 25% of patients
  • Secure, anonymisable and reusable digital biobank for future longitudinal studies
  • Replicable model for other ageing research centres

A commitment to preventive and personalised medicine

Ailin Health's participation in Senior Health 6P responds to our vision that the health of the future is built on real, integrated and accessible data. Not in the hospital when the disease is already advanced, but at home, in the routine, in the small changes that biomarkers detect long before the patient feels any symptoms.

Ageing is not a homogeneous process: two 70-year-olds can have radically different biological profiles. The possibility of capturing this heterogeneity at scale, with integrated genetic, biochemical, microbiological and functional data, is precisely what makes Salud Senior 6P a project with the potential to change the foundations of healthcare for older adults in Spain and Europe.
