It is now generally considered to be:
- Normal PSA level: a total PSA concentration of less than 4ng/mL (nanograms per millilitre of blood).
- High PSA level: values above 10.0 ng/mL are associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer (50%).
- Values between 4.0 and 10.0mg/mL are non-specific and may be due to prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostatitis:
- The risk of developing prostate cancer is 6.6% for PSA <0.5ng/mL.
- From 10% between 0.6-1ng/mL.
- From 17% between 1.1 - 2ng/mL.
- From 23% between 2.1- 3ng/mL.
- From 26.9% between 2.1- 3ng/mL.
