Trichomoniasis, also known as «trichomonas», is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. In some people, the infection may have no symptoms. However, when they do appear, symptoms may include:
- Foul-smelling, greenish-yellow vaginal discharge.
- Pain or burning when urinating.
- Irritation, redness or itching in the vaginal area.
- Pain during sexual intercourse.
It is important to note that these symptoms can also be caused by other sexually transmitted infections or other medical conditions. In addition, some people may have the infection without having symptoms, which increases the risk of transmission and long-term complications.
